Dr. Harold “Papa Flash” E. Edgerton was a professor of electrical engineering at MIT from 1927 until his death in 1990. During that time, he worked extensively with photographer Gjon Mili to develop strobe photography to a length which had never been seen . Together, they developed a series of multiple exposure photos featuring athletes in motion, capturing milliseconds of different movements compiled all together, showing the entire range of motion of a golf swing or tennis serve. This was the perfect inspiration for Wilson, a brand who not only has been the absolute standard of sports equipment for a century, but always on the cutting edge of technology as well.
